"Pro Life": Car Key Contains a Microchip Preventing Texting or Talking While Driving

The Pro Life is a Bluetooth enabled, micro-chip embedded key and coordinating software application that work in conjunction to disable an app equipped mobile phone once the key is turned in the ignition of any vehicle, be it a car, truck, motorcycle, or boat. The design intent is to prevent the driver from texting or speaking on the phone while operating a motor vehicle, except for allowing "911" emergency calls.

This system has a Bluetooth enabled key containing an embedded chip that works with the Pro Life app. The system renders cell phones useless when the key is in the ignition and has started the motor. As such, all communication, except 911 will be cut off. The device connects wirelessly with each key user's cell phone via either Bluetooth or RFID (radio-frequency identification) technologies. Users download the Pro Life app that work in conjunction with the Bluetooth chip and disable the phone from use. When the engine is started, the device sends a signal to the driver's cell phone, placing it in "driving mode" and displays a message on screen signaling it is in 'shutdown' mode. Incoming calls and texts are automatically answered with a message showing the individual is on the road and temporarily cannot be reached. When the engine is turned off, the Bluetooth communicates with the software returning phone to normal communication mode. Televised test marketing has recently been completed indicating strong consumer interest in the Pro Life.

The Patent Pending Pro Life was invented by Jennifer Holmes of Sweeny, TX who said, “Parents are on edge when a teen gets his or her license and drives away to go to school, work, meet friends or just to enjoy the freedom a driver’s license allows. And, in today’s world, their hand almost always holds a cell phone. This is just as true when in the car driving as when shopping. That is the reason I designed Pro Life. The system gives a parent peace of mind and the driver too because there are no distracting calls or messages coming in.  It works.”
