Here is a new stylish covering that is easy to attach to an existing wheelchair and is configured expressly to cover the user's lap and lower extremities. The design intent of the Chair Mate is to provide wheelchair-bound consumers with a fashionable and practical covering that protects their privacy and dignity when using the chair by discreetly hiding their lower body from view.
The Chair Mate secures to the front of the chair and features a sturdy yet lightweight metal or plastic framework which holds the covering in front of the body without directly touching the legs. It is secured in such a way that it prevents the covering from being entangled in the chair's wheels or otherwise sliding or moving about during use. The cover is secured via simple snaps or comparable fasteners or can also be integrally attached to the framework. A simple access panel is incorporated into the design of the covering and framework enabling the user to open and close the unit as desired.
